Lodge Holidays at the Track
Although the Grand National is now done and dusted for 2011, racing at Ascot is just getting into full swing for the season. Three upcoming events are sure to please every member of the family on a lodge holiday in Windsor, so get out your hats! It’s racing season and Ascot is where it’s all happening. Prepare a picnic at your lodge holiday house and bring the whole family along, kids are welcome at the races and some days have special events planned especially for them. Picnics are a special part of Ascot race days and areas for picnicking are designated throughout the grounds.
Betfair Weekend
In July its Betfair weekend and Ascot is featuring the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and a cocktail party. This race commemorates Her Majesty The Queen’s late parents and is the European mid-season middle distance championship and worth £1,000,000 so it’s sure to draw a crowd and lots of race excitement. The supporting card is second to none with the £150,000 Betfair Summer Double First Leg International Handicap, the big betting race of the day.
Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup
August at Ascot promises more good times for lodge holiday makers. The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is being coupled with an 80s concert that is an event in itself. The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is Britain’s premier jockeys’ competition, where teams of riders from all over the world compete over six races for the coveted trophy. The teams are Great Britain, Ireland, Europe and Rest of the World. In addition to the races there will be fairground rides, sports displays and planned activities for children over 10. For younger lodge holiday makers book the kids into the Colts and Fillies Club. The 80s concert will feature an amazing line-up of artists including Paul Young, Jason Donovan, China Crisis, Odyssey and more.
Ascot Festival of Food Race Day
Finishing the summer in style, and flavour, Ascot will host the Ascot Festival of Food Race day in September. This racing fixture is new to Ascot and the races taking place on this day are yet to be confirmed. What we do know is that lodge holiday makers at the races will be able to shop for local wares at more than 30 stands featuring cheeses, specialty breads, cakes, ciders, real ales, pasta, preserves, flowers and wild game. There will also be a cooking demonstration by Steve Golding, Ascot’s Executive Head Chief.
All race days at Ascot are a special affair. Lodge holiday makers and all race goers are required to adhere to Ascot’s dress code. Bring a picnic and the family but do dress for the occasion.
