A Royal Holiday

There can be a no more exciting time to visit London and her surrounds than now, in the wake of the royal wedding. There are some beautiful places to visit just outside of London, great markets to explore and of course, the buzz in London itself will never be more exciting now that the wedding plans have been made.

The future princess will arrive at Westminster Abbey by car for an 11am wedding service on Friday April 29, 2011 – a new bank holiday day for Britain! The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, will preside over the formal nuptials which will include a mixture of traditional vows and personal sentiments from the royal bride and groom. After the service the couple will return to Buckingham Palace via Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade and The Mall where throngs of fans and well-wishers will flock the streets in celebration.

Once the wedding party arrive back at the Palace the Queen will formally host a wedding reception for guests followed by a private reception hosted by the Prince of Wales. The private reception will include only close family and friends with dinner and dancing. In respect for the financial slump that is rocking the world (Britain being no exception) both the bride and groom families have joined forces to pay for the service, reception and honeymoon and will not flaunt undue excess.

The economy has in fact been cited as the reason for the car procession rather than the royal carriage and we can assume that Kate’s gown will be a more understated number than the former Princess of Wales opted for. That was to be expected anyway, Kate is some eight years older than Dianna was on her wedding day and less flamboyant in her fashion style.

It doesn’t have to cost vistors a fortune to be part of history in the making either. Log cabin and cottage accommodation just outside of the city centre is a great option if you are on a budget but keen to be part of the great celebration.
