The Lake District
If you are staying in one of the many log cabins or Lake District Cottages, while visiting the Lake District for self catering breaks you will undoubtedly spend most of your days walking and hiking outdoors and marvelling at the splendid scenery there is on offer. But, on those days where it might just be a bit too much and you need to recover or need to do something for the kids, there are a number of activities and days out available.
For some family fun you can visit some of the following attractions:
LAKES AQUARIUM – Situated on the banks of Lake Windermere, this family attraction is a must for all visitors to the lake district. Here you will be able to see an abundance of wildlife based in and around Lake Windermere. Venture into the glass tunnel beneath Lake Windermere and see the diving ducks and huge carp swim right past. The attraction is open all year round and takes school and group bookings. LAKELAND MINIATURE VILLAGE – This miniature village has over 100 buildings which are made from the local coniston slate. Wander around this miniature replica of some of the most famous buildings in the Lake District including the former home of Beatrix Potter, The Hill Top. PUZZLING PLACE – This attraction is located in the heart of the village of Keswick. Here you can enter the ‘anti gravity room’, see ‘eyelusions exhibition’ or stare at the ‘hologram gallery’. Admission for adults is only £3.50, £2.75 for children and the under 5’s go free. Please remember to check the opening times before you go as it is closed on occasions during the winter months. THE WORLD OF BEATRIX POTTER – Located in Bowness on Windermere, the world of Beatrix Potter is one of the most popular attractions in the lake district. Here you can meet Peter Rabbit and all his friends. Enjoy all 23 of the tales in an indoor magical recreation in the Lakeland countryside. THE BOND MUSEUM – Again located in Keswick, the Bond Museum is a must for all James Bond enthusiasts. Here you will be able to view many of the cars that featured in the popular James Bond films. Make sure you check the opening times because the museum is closed in the early part of the year. The Bond Museum
WALBY PARK FARM – Voted the “Best visitor attraction in 2008” by the Cumbrian newspaper and located 4 miles from Carlisle, this working farm will provide a great day out for the whole family. The facility includes an outdoor play area, many friendly animals, a nature trail and one of the largest indoor play areas you will find. GO APE– Located in Grizedale Forest this exhilerating day out is fun for the whole family. An active and adventurous day out awaits all those who spend a day at Go Ape. Swing from trees like Tarzan, scramble around on rope bridges and descend at intense speeds down the biggest zip line in the UK.
